When it comes to selecting a daycare facility, safety may be a top concerns. You are putting your complete trust in others to care for your kid, and you want to ensure that nothing happens to them doing the day. Here are some things to watch out for to let you know if the daycare will be a safe place for your kid.
Building Security
A safe daycare starts with the security of the facility itself. Ideally, you do not want to use a facility that allows people to walk right into the building without anything stopping them. At the very least, having someone at a front desk is ideal to screen everyone that enters the building. If parents must use a key fob or passcode to enter the building, that is an additional layer of security which ensures that the only people entering the building are those that need to be there.
Pick Up Policy
There will be times when you are unable to make it to the facility in time to get your kid, and may need to give that responsibility to a relative or friend. However, the daycare's policy about how others will be allowed to come and get your kid is crucial. You do not want anybody to be able to walk in and say they are picking up your kid, and there needs to be a policy in place to prevent this from happening. The best solution will be to require a photo idea of all people that will be allowed to pick up your kid. This will ensure that the person coming in is who they say they are, and if there is any doubt, they have a photo of their ID to cross reference.
Security Cameras
Does the daycare have cameras in the rooms that allow the administration to watch over the children? Some daycares even allow you to log in and view the camera feed at any time to check in on your children. Ask if the facility has cameras and if they record the footage and are able to view it. If a kid is injured at the facility, the footage can be a great way to see how the accident happened and to help prevent it from happening in the future. It will also help ensure that kids are being cared for according to state guidelines, and the accountability can be verified by others if necessary.
